AAJA-MN LEADERSHIP IN DIVERSITY AWARD

AAJA Minnesota proudly presents Chris Worthington, managing director for news at Minnesota Public Radio, with the 2012 Leadership in Diversity Award. This award honors an individual who has made great strides in promoting and demonstrating diversity in the news industry.
Chris is committed to developing the next generation of journalists, who will be, no doubt, more diverse than the current generation. His support for groups like AAJA is unwavering, even during challenging times for the industry. His commitment is also demonstrated specifically in the MPR newsroom, where he created an editor position to attract new audiences and bring more diverse voices to our airwaves.
Chris expects staff members to regularly attend conferences held by AAJA, NABJ, and UNITY – not only for their professional development, but also to help recruit journalists of color to MPR News.
He has also set expectations for newsroom hiring managers to strongly consider job candidates of color. In addition, Chris continues to be a strong supporter of ThreeSixty, a multicultural youth journalism program at the University of St. Thomas.
